Each player (including the dealer) receives three cards face-down from a standard 52-card deck. A boot amount is collected from all players before the deal. Players then either play blind (without looking at their cards, betting half the current stake) or seen (having looked at their cards, paying the full stake). The player with the best hand at showdown wins the pot.
Hand rankings from highest to lowest: Trail (three of a kind) → Pure Sequence (three suited consecutive cards) → Sequence (three consecutive cards, mixed suits) → Colour (three same-suit non-consecutive) → Pair (two of a kind) → High Card.
Playing blind in early rounds costs half the stake and keeps pressure on seen players. It also builds a strong table image that can cause opponents to fold even if your eventual hand is moderate.

Two hands – Player and Banker – each receive two or three cards according to fixed drawing rules. The hand closest to nine wins. Card values: Ace = 1, 2–9 = face value, 10 and face cards = 0. If the total exceeds 9, only the second digit counts (e.g., 15 = 5). You bet before the deal on Player, Banker, or Tie.
A Banker win pays 0.95:1 (5% commission). A Player win pays 1:1. A Tie pays 8:1 but carries a very high house edge and is generally not recommended for regular play.
Statistically the Banker hand wins slightly more than 50% of the time. Despite the 5% commission, the Banker bet has the lowest house edge (1.06%) in the entire game. Over many hands, this difference is significant.
An 8:1 payout sounds attractive but the house edge on the Tie bet is around 14%. It is by far the worst bet on the Baccarat table and should be treated as an occasional punt rather than a regular part of your strategy.
Beat the dealer by getting closer to 21 without busting. You receive two cards and can Hit (take another card), Stand (keep your total), Double Down (double your bet and take exactly one more card), or Split (separate a pair into two hands). The dealer must hit on 16 or below and stand on 17 or above. A natural Blackjack (Ace + 10-value card) pays 3:2.
Two Aces together are weak (value of 2 or 12). Split them for two chances at Blackjack. Two 8s equal 16 – the worst possible hand total. Splitting gives you two fresh starts.
A pair of 10s gives you 20 – already an excellent hand. A pair of 5s gives you 10 – a great doubling hand. Splitting either wastes a strong position.
When your first two cards total 11, doubling down is statistically one of the most profitable moves in the game, especially when the dealer shows a weak upcard (2–6).
The dealer places one card face-up on the Dragon position and one on the Tiger position. The higher card wins. Aces are low (ranking below 2). You bet on Dragon, Tiger, or Tie before the deal. Dragon and Tiger both pay 1:1. A Tie pays 8:1 but has a high house edge. Some tables offer suit and odd/even side bets for extra variety.
If a Tie occurs, half your Dragon or Tiger bet is returned – so a Tie does not result in a total loss on main bets, which is a nice player-friendly rule.
The main bets have a house edge of around 3.73%. The Tie bet carries roughly 32% house edge. There is really no strategic reason to bet on Tie regularly – it is a rare-event side bet at best.
Unlike Blackjack, keeping track of remaining cards in Dragon Tiger gives only a marginal edge that is impractical to exploit in a live casino environment. Just enjoy the speed and simplicity of the game.
